Influence of Skin Diseases on Fingerprint Quality and Recognition

  • Original language description

Fingerprint recognition belongs to one of the most often used biometric technologies worldwide. Some people whose fingers are affected by a skin disease cannot use this technology which is discriminating for them, since they are not allowed to use theirfingerprints for the authentication purposes. This chapter describes research of influence of skin diseases to fingerprint recognition and all supporting and related work of this research. This research requires cooperation of specialists from differentprofessional areas: medical doctors, dactyloscopic experts, IT programmers etc. After some basic introduction to fingerprint recognition several skin diseases which may have an influence on the process of fingerprint recognition are introduced. These were selected from the medical literature in close co-operation with medical doctors. Various diseases which may influence the functionality of fingerprint based systems are introduced in a complete summarization here, divided into three sub
