Some bifunctional compounds containing at least one hydroxyl able to activate this hydroxyl by means of a hydrogen bond in an internal chelate strongly accelerate hydrolysis of substrate -4-nitrophenyl acetate acting thus as an esterase model, as shown on the group of more than 40 compounds, among them pyridinealdoximes and corresponding bis-(pyridine) derivatives.
