The use natural polymers as binders for foundry sand
Original language description
In the last decade, appreciable attention has been paid to the working environmental conditions, which must be kept in certain limits. The atmosphere in the foundries is polluted by toxic gaseous compounds emitted during casting into moulds containing resins as binder of foundry sands. Therefore, new ecologically benign binders are developed. As a new binders of 4th generation, different natural polymers are proposed and tested. The preliminary experiment with some natural proteins as a binder of foundrry sands exhibited appropriate tensile strength. Very important is the possibility of recycling of the moulding material containing water-soluble or water-swelling proteins.
