Lamination and Varnishing as a Tool for Inkjet Prints Protection?
Original language description
There are well known problems with archival stability of inkjet prints. Mainly dyes used in inkjet ink solutions are not very stable in the presence of degradation conditions as UV light or pollutants in the environment. Lamination or varnish applicationis one of the ways of simple inkjet prints protection. Prints are directly protected against mechanical damage (scoring and scratching), there is no access of air and pollutants from surrounding atmosphere to surface of prints and finally, varnish coating or lamination layer may absorb a part of dye-destructive UV light. Efficiency of this protection is tested by UV light accelerated ageing tests with the use of a xenon test chamber. Inkjet prints lightfastness is evaluated from colorimetric measurements and calculated colour changes in the term of total colour difference.
