Development and application of the analytical method using GCxGC-TOF MS for the monitoring of wastewater and surface waters in the Czech Republic for presence of selected drug residues

  • Original language description

This study is focused on development and application of the analytical method using comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection Time-of-Flight (GCxGC-TOF MS) for the determination of group of acidic drugs in wastewater and surface waters in the Czech Republic. GCxGC-TOF MS is an excellent method for trace and ultra trace analysis of organic compounds, due to its high separation efficiency and sensitivity. Target compounds were selected mainly from the most used group of pharmaceuticals in the Czech Republic ? non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID): salicylic acid, acetylsalicylic acid, clofibric acid, ibuprofen, caffeine, naproxen, mefenamic acid, ketoprofen and diclofenac. Samples of wastewater were collected daily in November 2010 from the influent and effluent of the WWTP in Brno ? Modřice. Samples of surface water were collected from significant river streams Svratka and Svitava in October 2010. Solid phase extraction (SPE) was used for
