Application of Low Temperature Plasmas for the Treatment of Ancient Archaeological Objects
Original language description
The plasma chemical treatment of archaeological artifacts by RF hydrogen low pressure plasma is a relatively new technique discovered at mid 80's. The corrosions as well as their removal are a very complex problem. The classical cleaning procedures are typically aggressive or very slow; moreover they require high men power. The application of plasmas can be much more effective but the devices must be constructed. Due to the fact that the mechanism of corrosion removal induced by plasma is not yet fullyunderstood the optimal conditions are not known well. Because each archaeological object is original with the unique composition of corrosion layers as well corrosion history it is necessary to study the influence of processes and discharge conditions using the model corroded samples. The corrosion removal is realized by low pressure RF hydrogen plasma where different duty cycles are applied to keep low temperature of samples. The conditions are optimized for selected most frequent mater
