Study of the passive layer of the stainless steels
Original language description
The corrosion resistance of stainless steels is based on the ability to passivate their surface. They form a passive layer. Common factors which can lead to instability of the passive layer and corrosion attacs of stainless steel are inhomogenities or damage of passive layer, mechanical stress which generates defects and sufficient amount of oxidants in contact with surface. In the use of stainless steel with ever-increasing demands of their properties and corrosion resistance, it also means the qualityof the passive layer [1]. From this perspective, it is good to know detailed characterization of the passive layer, depending on the nature and environment of its origin. The method of XPS (X-ray photoelectron spekctroscopy) is used for this characterization. The XPS method is currently one of the most widespread methods of research solid surface. The using of this method obtains information not only a chemical composition solid surface but also it bonds individual atoms to their surrou
