RECYCLING OF WASTE TECHNOLOGICAL SLUDGE IN ALKALI ACTIVATED CONCRETES

  • Original language description

Alkali activated materials have been well known for many years. However, their wider use in the concrete industry is limited by the growing price of raw materials. Especially the commonly used alkali activators such as alkali metal hydroxides or water glass are very expensive whereby the alkali activated concretes become economically disadvantageous. The solution provides the development of the new concrete which is formed only with by product materials including the alkali activator composed of high alkali waste technological sludge from water glass production. Currently this waste is expensively discarded so there is an understandable interest of the producer to its effective, cheap and ecological disposal. The benefit of the article lies in the study of mechanical properties, solving the problems with extensive shrinkage of this material and verification of its applicability in the concrete industry. Finally, it has been proved that the production of the new alkali activated concrete is significantly cheap and usable in concrete production technology.
