Impact of geographical locality on metabolic profiles of selected medicinal plants from Lamiaceae family
Original language description
Medicinal plants are major natural source of phytochemicals, which are useful to prevent and treat human diseases. In medicinal plants, both primary and secondary metabolites are presented as intermediates or end-products of cellular regulatory pathways. Widely discussed is the impact of geographical and environmental conditions on metabolite composition of medicinal plants. Same plant species growing under different environmental conditions show significant differences in the production and accumulation of metabolites. Therefore, the study of these differences is very important in the chemical characterization of plants with the different geographical origin and are necessary to evaluate in order to confirm or compare their therapeutic or market value in order to improve compositional quality of medicinal plants that are used as medicines. For this reason, is of vital significance for pharmaceutical industry and plant metabolic pathway analys
