Effect of Random Mutagenesis on Lipid Compounds Production by Carotenogenic yeast
Original language description
Carotenogenic yeasts are excellent producers of microbial lipids and pigments. Their producing potential can be used for wide range of industrial applications such as production of the so-called third-generation biofuels, in cosmetics, pharmaceutical or food industries. The aim of this work was to choose the best lipid producing yeast strain and employ random mutagenesis to gain lipid overproducing mutants capable of utilizing economically feasible substrates such as glycerol or whey. For this study were used carotenogenic yeasts of genus Rhodotorula, Sporobolomyces and Cystofilobasidium.
