    Ultrasound characterization of LUDOX® nanofluids

  • Original language description

Over the past couple of decades, nanoparticle research has gained a lot of interest across research areas. This work aimed to characterize three different commercial LUDOX® nanofluids (SM30, HS40, and TM40). High-resolution ultrasonic spectroscopy (HRUS) was used as a technique for the characterization of a nanofluid of silica nanoparticles dispersed in a base liquid. By measuring both the ultrasound velocity and the nanofluid density, the adiabatic compressibility of the nanofluid was calculated. Dynamic and electrophoretic light scattering supported the characterization of the nanoparticles in the nanofluid. The shape of the nanoparticles was visualized using transmission electron microscopy. In addition to experimental analysis, the numerical characteristics of the LUDOX® nanofluids were calculated, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of their behavior.
