    The paper focuses on the importance and position of tourism within the economy of the Czech Republic, and on one significant segment of tourism in particular: congress and incentive tourism (CIT). It includes a determination of its economic significancein accordance with the Czech Statistical Office s Satellite Account of Tourism in the Czech Republic 2003-2005, and data statements on incoming tourism, domestic tourism and outgoing tourism. In 2005 tourism accounted for 2.8 % of the gross added value of the Czech economy and 3.1 % of GDP. In the period investigated, expenditure by tourists nevertheless increased: in 2005 total consumption of internal tourism in the Czech Republic amounted to 217 billion CZK. More than 23 million foreign visitors travelled to the Czech Republic in 2005. In the same year the revenue of the Czech Republic from these visitors exceeded 121 billion CZK.
