    The article presents the results of research based on the review of existing Czech and international literature supported by strategic documents, indexes, and reports. The research focused on the topic of the innovation potential of companies in the Czech Republic operating in the manufacturing industry, highlighting the importance of the digital transformation phenomenon that companies in the manufacturing industry are facing nowadays. The original research design combines relevant theory and content analysis to fulfill the main aim of the article - set specific criteria that can be used for evaluation of innovation potential of companies in the manufacturing industry in the Czech Republic. Even though several authors focused on the topic of innovations and innovation potential, presenting different views and outcomes, none of these articles wre specifically focused on the establishment of common evaluating criteria suitable for the assessment of innovation potential of companies in the manufacturing industry. As a result of this article, several criteria have been set, all having strong linkages to the phenomenon of digital transformation and consequently Industry 4.0. These criteria were R&D activities, digitalization, open innovation, changes in business models and value chains, and smart people. Conclusions present insights concerning the manufacturing industry together with the respective theory.
