Product-related Services Provided by Electrical Engineering Manufacturers in the Visegrad 4 Countries
Original language description
Research background: Many of engineering manufacturers provide service offer based on technologies in the context of Industry 4.0 as digitized or remote (so- called smart services). However, there is limited empirical evidence to examine which after-sales product services are in practice adopted and supported by technologies by manufacturers in the V4 countries. Purpose of the article: This article presents empirical evidence on the after-sales product services offered, such as monitoring, diagnostics, repair and maintenance, offered by small to large manufacturers in V4 countries. The current study seeks to map the occurrence of after-sales product services provided by manufacturers from the electrical industry with the potential of digitization and remote support. Methods: Through secondary research of data obtained from the ORBIS EUROPE global database, this study applies archival research and content analysis of data from approximately 2,000 electrical engineering manufacturers from NACE Rev 2. 26 and 27, which are analyzed in more detail as those sectors, that have the largest share of product support and maintenance service offerings. Findings & Value added: Of the total number of producers from the electrotechnical sector of the V4 countries, 20.62 % are oriented towards the provision of product aftersales services with the potential of digitization or remote support. Hungary and the Czech Republic have the relatively highest share of the offer of support services for products with regard to the number of producers in the country. The potential of services in the context of Industry 4.0 is presented at the end of this study.
