Co - Extrusion of Plastic Materials in Very Thin Layers
Original language description
Simultaeous extrusion of two or more layers of polymers through the same die has been used since the early 1950's to improve product quality, functionality and process efficiency. Under certain conditions, the co-extrusion process exhibits some flow phenomena (encapsulation effect, interfacial instabilities) having signnificant impact on the final product shape and uniformity. These phenomena are not very well understood. One of them is known as interfacial instabilities. This is due to the fact that the flow of viscoelastic polymer materials give rise to unstable interface and undesirable layer distubution that can sometimes even its properties such as mechanical, optical or vapour barriers.
