Development of a Terahertz Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer for Electron Spin Dynamics Investigations
Original language description
The aim of the work is to set up and develop general purpose state of the art broadband Electron Paramagnetic Resonance spectrometer based on THz rapid frequency scans (THz-FRaScan-EPR). It will allow multi-frequency relaxation studies of variety of samples ranging from bulk (crystal) materials, over powdered samples to air sensitive samples in liquid solutions. New concept of sample holder will allow scan up to 6 samples for one insertion, which will significantly decrease the measuring time. It will operate at frequencies between 80 GHz to 1100 GHz, at temperatures from 1.8 K to 300 K and at magnetic field up to 16 T, capable to perform studies even at zero field. Thanks to a completely new concept of detection based on rapid frequency sweeps, which will allow relaxation investigations at THz frequencies, nowadays completely unexplored. Obtained results will stimulate the development of new materials as well as leading to the development of new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) applications in hospitals by means of Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP).
