Electrochemically deposited polypyrrole nanorods and study of their ammonia sensing properties
Original language description
Polypyrrole nanorods (50 nm diameter, 340 nm length) are synthesized via electrochemical processes using porous alumina template. Characterization of these structures via Raman demonstrates the formation of polypyrrole, displaying polypyrrole vibration bands consistent with the literature. Additionally, XPS reveals the presence of neutral PPy species as major components in PPy NRs, as well as other species including polarons, bipolarons and imines. Raman spectroscopy analysis on polypyrrole after ammonia exposure shows alterations in the Raman bands, indicating the sensitivity of polypyrrole to ammonia via a sensing mechanism combined by proton and electron transfer.
