Influence of Incidence Angle and Light Polarization on the Refractive Index Sensitivity of a Gold-Epoxy Nanocomposites Sensor

  • Original language description

The bulk refractive index sensitivity of a novel AuNP-epoxy surface nanocomposite sensor was experimentally investigated. The studied nanocomposite was successfully used as a localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) sensor for DNA detection in the past, where unpolarized light was used for sensor readout in a traditional, transmittance-based setup. Here the influence of incidence angle and linear polarization angle was studied experimentally. By increasing the refractive index sensitivity of the nanocomposite, the most important parameters of the sensors (molecular sensitivity and limit of detection) could be increased. The results suggest that optimizing the inclination angle and linear polarization angle of excitation can lead to a 40-45% increase in the measured sensitivity compared to normal incidence and unpolarized conditions
