Original language description
The situation of the non-university higher education sector in the Czech Republic is particularly complex because, in addition to the distinction between universities and non-university institution, the non-university sector is further differentiated. Two types of non-university institutions exist in the Czech Republic, each with a different mission, legal status, degree programmes and research involvement. Author of this article primarily deals with national research policies in relation to the non-university sector, with public funding of research and with staffing policies inherent in the accreditation system. Further, he reviews institutional strategies and practices in the area of research and reflect on the dilemmas and challenges facing the future development of research in the Czech non-university sector.
