Collection and Utilization of Genetic Resources in Hop Breeding

  • Original language description

NESVADBA V.: Collection and Utilization of Genetic Resources in Hop Breeding. Book of Abstracts, IV. International Humulus Symposium, Yakima, USA, August 6-8, 79-80, 2015. The results of chemical analyses show at high variability in chemical compositionof hop cones from wild hops having their origin in Europe, Caucasus and North America. It is necessary to say that we have just partial results and other research on this objective will continue. From the practical point of view it is obvious that wild hops have begun to find their important place within breeding programs. They are used predominantly in breeding aimed at flavor hops and resistance to dryness. Expeditions with the objective to sample other wild hops are funded by National program of conservation and utilization of genetic resources in plants and biodiversity. With the help of wild hops we have managed to enlarge considerably genetic variability of our hop collection, which is very important for hop breeding.
