Productivity and variability of Czech hop cultivars

  • Original language description

Yield stability and content are very important features for hop cultivars. The evaluation was performed in the years 2014-2019. The ‘Gaia’ and ‘Kazbek’ cultivars have the highest hop yield. The lowest average yield was reached in ‘Saazer’. Conclusively the lowest variability of yield was observed in ‘Bor’, ‘Saaz Late’, ‘Saazer’ and ‘Sládek’. On the contrary, ‘Gaia’ showed the highest variability and also had the highest alpha acid contents. ‘Vital’ and ‘Boomerang’ have higher alpha acid contents than other Czech cultivars. On the contrary, the lowest alpha acid contents were found in ‘Saaz Late’ and ‘Saazer’. Variability in the contents of alpha acids is lower than variability in the yield. Conclusively, ‘Rubín’ showed the lowest inter-year variability. Very low variability of content is typical also for ‘Vital’ and ‘Gaia’. The results achieved are very important for hop practice and the hop trade.
