Probing and remediation of oil lagoons: selected technological approaches
Original language description
Several different approaches can be used for remediation of oil lagoons. One of the relatively widespread technologies is processing the oil sludge on two- or possibly three-phase centrifuges. A great advantage of this approach lays in the fact that it is an environmentally considerate technology that allows for consequent usage of separated phases. Another possibility is the production of solid alternative fuel directly from the oil sludge using the method of mixing with suitable additives that securethe needed manipulability and fuel efficiency of the final product. Yet another solution, which is however economically very demanding, is burning the oil sludge in a hazardous waste incineration plant. In the case of problematic processing of the oil sludge, the stabilization/solidification method can be used. Sites that are relatively less contaminated (for example, a transition zone) can be sanitized using biotechnological methods, such as biodegradation.
