Biodegradation of lindane and other chlorocyclohexanes using Daramend technology
Original language description
A silty clay soil containing high concentrations of hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) was subjected to bioremediation studies under laboratory conditions to determine treatment efficacy and the associated HCH degradation rates. Impacted soil originating from achemical plant in Skopje (Macedonia), where the internationally used insecticide Lindane was manufactured, contained more than 8% of HCH . The soil was treated using DARAMEND? amendments (at either 2 or 4% w/w) under cycled anoxic/oxic conditions. The DARAMEND in situ chemical reduction (ISCR) technology combines a complex, hydrophilic carbon source plus zero-valent iron (ZVI) to enhance the physical, chemical and microbiological degradation processes.
