The paper refers to utilization of biological elements within permeable reactive barriers. The concept of a biofiltration permeable barrier for treatment of organic and inorganic pollutants has been tested in laboratory and also in pilot-scale conditions. Waste materials (oxyhumolite, crushed ceramic clay and plastics) have been used as reactive fillings.
