Comparison of microwave and direct burner heating during in-situ pilot scale remediation on the area of machinery company

  • Original language description

Poster presentation The contribution deals with testing in-situ heating of the rock environment where organic contaminants are converted into vapors, which speeds up their subsequent venting process. The heating was conducted on a pilot scale at a site contaminated with cutting oils. Two heating methods were tested - heating with a 16 kW burner and 6 kW microwave heating. The microwave heating was reliable, after 40 days, an average soil temperature of 65 ° C was reached at a distance of 1.5 m from the application borehole (waveguide). During burner testing were appeared some complications especially in the form of soot formation and fouling of the fuel nozzle, which required technological breaks. The average temperature in a radius of 1.5 m from the burner borehole reached 50 ° C in the exhaust borehole reached only about 40 °C. For both kind of heating were concentration of hydrocarbons in drainage condensate were low - on the order of tens to hundreds mg/l NEL and was not found hydrocarbon phase. The temperature reached for the efficient desorption of oils was low and the test time was too short, so the effect of rock decontamination did not occur.
