Peatlands are relatively rare habitat in the Czech Republic. It is estimated that preserved peatlands cover 0.3 % of the area of the country. Most of the peatlands are situated in the mountains around the borders. Particular peat bogs are rather isolatedhaving an ?island? character with specific flora and fauna. Typically, there is a relatively large number of glacial relicts.
