Evaluation of PPV symptoms on plum fruits
Original language description
In autumn 1990, a spatially isolated experimental planting of large assortment of plums (207 cultivars) was established. In August 1991, the cultivars were inoculated with severe strain of PPV from an infected Domestic Prune tree. Cultivars, which were not positive in ELISA tests in 1995, were reinfected by the same PPV source in 1996. The highest transmission occurred in the first year after infection (69.5%). In years 1998-2003, PPV symptoms were evaluated on fruits. The results show that numbers of trees with PPV symptoms on fruits are continuously growing over time. The strongest symptoms of PPV on fruits were noted in the following cvs.: Italian prune, Pozegaca, Hauszwetsche and its clones, Albatros, Bonne de Bry, Bucurie, Lutzelsachser, etc. On the contrary, Cacanska Lepotica, Cacanska Najbolja, Elena, Gabrovska, Hamanova, Hanita, Chrudimer, Large Sugar Prune, Opal, Oullins Gage, Ruth Gerstetter, Stanley etc., did not develop any symptoms.
