Evaluation of Monilinia blossom blight in sweet cherry orchards
Original language description
Monilinia laxa is a fungal pathogen attacking mainly stone fruits causing blossom blight. This pathogen commonly occurs in the Czech Republic with increased harmful effect in rainy weather conditions during flowering time. The infestation of sweet cherry cultivars by M. laxa was evaluated in the year 2014 in Holovousy (Czech Republic). Two parameters were assessed: intensity of blossom infestation (scale 0 – 4; 0 – without infestation; 4 – whole flower infested and seared) and the total infestation of the tree (scale 1 – 9; 1 - without infestation; 9 – 100 % of tree affected). Totally 21 sweet cherry cultivars were evaluated. Cultivar ʻReginaʼ (intensity of infestation 1, total infestation 2) was the most resistant of the overall assessment. On the contrary, cultivars ʻVanʼ (intensity of infestation 3, total infestation 5) and ʻFelicitaʼ (intensity of infestation 2, total infestation 5) were the most susceptible to M. laxa.
