Physical properties of native hyaluronan solutions for preparation of nanofibres

  • Original language description

Hyaluronan is a high molecular weight unbranched glycosaminoglycan, composed of repeating disaccharides. Hyaluronan is naturally found in many tissues of the body, such as skin, cartilage, and the vitreous humour. It is therefore well suited to biomedical applications targeting these tissues. The preparation of hyaluronan nanofibres is based on electrospinning method of hyaluronan solutions with the appropriate physical properties. Because the viscosity is known as one of the most important parameter that influences the nanofibres formation, the effect of molecular weight, concentration of HA and used´solvent on apparent viscosity was studied. Also other solutions properties, such a surface tension and conductivity were measured. Prepared solutions were electrospinned and formation of nanofibres was observed. The best parameters of hyaluronan solutions were chosen. The hyaluronan nanofibres were prepared. Also the critical overlap concentration (c*) was determined for water solutions o
