Utilization of new non toxic substances as stabilizers for nitrocellulose based propellants
Original language description
Propellants consisting from nitrocellulose and other nitrate esters are chemically unstable and undergo decomposition at standard storage conditions, which can be inhibited/nearly stopped by stabilizers. Conventional stabilizers form nitrosamines, whichare carcinogenic. Samples of propellants with new stabilizers, which does not enable formation of toxic N-nitrosamines at decomposition, were investigated using microcalorimetry, conventional stability tests and sensitivity tests. The results were compared to propellants with conventional stabilizer Acardite II.
