Selecting More Drought Tolerant Malting Barley
Original language description
Spring barley is very drought sensitive crop due to short vegetation period and shallow root system. Unstable growing conditions are increasingly endangering production of malting barley in many traditional growing areas. There are two ways to solve the problem – to move the production to more suitable regions or to grow varieties that are able to cope better with demanding conditions. The multidisciplinary project deals with two options – improving methods for detecting traits associated with higher drought tolerance and direct screening for drought tolerant malting barley genotypes within available varieties, gene bank accessions and advanced lines from Selgen breeding programme. Poster et 74th Plant Breeders Meeting, 20 - 22 November 2023, Gumpenstein.
