Symbiotic plant-fungal interactions with emphasis on rhizoctonias
Original language description
Symbiotic relationships between plants and fungi are fundamental components of ecosystems, contributing to their stability and functionality. Rhizoctonia-like fungi serve as the primary mycobionts of terrestrial orchids, but their ecological roles extend far beyond this. These fungi are also involved in forming endophytic associations with a wide range of plant families, enhancing the resilience and productivity of the plants they inhabit. This presentation delves into the diversity of these fungi, with a particular focus on their ability to colonize the tissues of maize. The lecture held on December 5, 2024, at the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University explored the ecological significance of these interactions and their potential applications in agricultural systems.
