The paper deals with three related aspects of innovation performance in the new EUentrants (as compared to the old members). The first aspect includes the concept of competitiveness and its sources. The second aspect considers the role of competitiveness(reflected in an increasing export performance) in the stimulation of innovation performance in the less developed (EU) countries. The third aspect points to the policy implications of the observed relation between competitiveness and innovation performance.

Studie se zabývá třemi aspekty inovační výkonnosti v nových členských zemích EU (v porovnání ke starým). Jedná se o koncept konkurenceschopnosti a jejích zdrojů, druhý aspekt bere v úvahu roli konkurenceschopnosti při stimulaci inovační výkonnosti v méněrozvinutých zemích (EU). Třetí aspekt se zabývá politickými implikacemi vztahů mezi konkurenceschopností a inovační výkonností.
