AA 8006 sheets produced by DC casting and hot rolling have been used in heat exchangers as finstocks. However, sheet fabrication by TRC and cold rolling ensures substantial material and energy savings. Unfortunately such materials exhibit lower formability than DC cast sheets. The kinetics and temperature range of AA 8006 alloy phase transformations occurring during heat processing are not well known yet. The work presented involves a study of the phase transformations in a strip-cast AA 8006 alloy in the temperature range 20 - 605°C using thermoelectric power (TEP) and resistometric measurements, TEM observations and metallographic analysis. The occurrence of second phase precipitation at temperatures from 350 to 445°C and particles re-dissolution athigher temperatures were observed in the as-cast alloy. The same processes are present also in the homogenised alloy but are much less pronounced.
