Elections in process of democratic transition.
Original language description
This article studies elections with its institutions at the national level during the period transition with a focus on shaping the rules of electoral competition for establishing the democratic elections, i.e. it deals with the status of elections in the transition period because the elections are seen a determining factor for democratic transition. However, also paradigm of hybrid regimes should not be omitted as they deny elections as a key element in the transition to democracy. The article focuses on theoretical approaches to position of elections in transitional process analysing chosen models of electoral designing adapted to new democracies. The reason for this article is that research of democratization processes currently represents a systematic effort to analyse transformational efforts of the new democracies including elections and their impact on the process of democratic transition. However, minimum attention is paid to the founding elections (i.e. first elections) which come after a fall non-democratic regime and strong support for democracy in the first elections help the process of democratic consolidation.
