PASSIVE STATE STABILITY OF STAINLESS MATERIALS IN FGD PLANTS
Original language description
The characteristic corrosion damage suffered by the medium and higher alloyed materials are limited by passive state stability. In general it can be stated that the materials which can cope best with the untreated flue gases environments of different degrees of aggressiveness are the higher-alloyed steels and nickel alloys exhibiting a highly stable passive state. It is desirable that the passive film should form quickly, and repassivate at any breaks before much damage can occur. The better acid chloride local corrosion resistance of stainless materials can be attributed in large part to molybdenum and/or chromium content.
