Development of new structural weathering steels
Original language description
The steels with increased atmospheric corrosion resistance ? weathering steels ? are profitably employed for traffic ways and railways steel structures (especially bridges). These steels are protected against atmospheric corrosion by self-formation of stable oxide layer ? patina. Especially the Atmofix brand steels of the grade S355W(P) (according to the standard ČSN EN 10025-5) are employed for traffic and railroad bridges in the Czech Republic. Modified alloying conceptions of weathering steel standard were suggested on the basis of computer simulation. The work presents properties achieved at three semi-industrially processed heats of weathering steels with modified chemical composition. These are specifically 2 two low-carbon microalloyed steels and one low-carbon ferrite-bainite self-hardening steel.
