THE ROLE OF TITANIUM IN STAINLESS STEELS-invited lecture
Original language description
In view of the wide application range of austenitic stainless steels and alloys, it is indispensable for these materials to retain adequate passivity when exposed to aggressive media under a variety of conditions. Stability of the passive state is the function mainly of the chemical composition, structural sensitivity, and the state of stressing of the metal, coupled with the specific chemistry of the environment, as is also the case e.g., with boiling water and pressure water reactors.
