Properties and protective ability of long-term exposed weathering steel constructions in the Czech Republic
Original language description
The properties of corrosion layer ? patina had been analysed on 15 constructions made from weathering steel (bridges, poles, etc.) exposed for 25 ? 33 years at the Czech Republic. The exposure conditions had been mostly industrial or urban. The surface of steel bridge construction had been affected by chloride only as a result of leakage of de-icing salts from highways. The patina was evaluated by thickness measurement and by chemical and structural analysis. From these data the protective ability index(PAI) was calculated for patina layers developed in various conditions of wetness and contamination of construction surface.
