Study of properties in three-point bending creep test of polypropylene nanocomposites

  • Original language description

The results of creep measurements of polypropylene nanocomposites in three- point bending creep test are presented in this paper. In these experiments the influence of nanofiller`s character and their content on creep behavior was measured. These results were also compared to neat (unfilled) polypropylene matrix. The influence of higher temperature (30 °C, 40 °C, 50 °C) was also measured on these composite materials. All gained results of creep measurements were put into context with microstructural analysis obtained by electron and optical microscopy. Neat matrix of Moplen HP400R (PPh) and composites based on this material were used in tests. Halloysite nanotubes – HNT (5 and 10 wgt. %) and calcium carbonate Socal® with modified particle surface (7 and 15 wgt. %) were used as nanofillers. During experiments there was found out, that both types of nanofillers increase creep resistance of polypropylene matrix (average values for creep curve were obtained using Findley model). Effectiveness of HNT was especially at elevated temperatures, higher than that of modified calcium carbonate, which can be explained by difference in particle geometry. Character of interphase interface and homogeneity of particle dispergation are also important factors.
