    The presented Paper contains partial results obtained from the experiments of nitrogenising steels alloyed by chromium in a vacuum and pressure induction melting (VPIM) furnace at MATERIÁLOVÝ A METALURGICKÝ VÝZKUM s.r.o. The technique proved the benefitsusing vacuum for deep decarburisation of stainless steels and the subsequent use of pressure to nitrogenise these steels. Especially for demanding grade steels, the benefit of secondary metallurgy, specifically in an induction melting reactor, vacuumingand nitrogenising the molten steel at increased pressure becomes apparent. This Paper is a contribution towards feasibility studies of producing steel with high content of nitrogen using the technique of combining an oxygen convertor as a melting aggregate with a reactor which enables the steel to be nitrogenised
