Material characteristic of surface layers
Original language description
Test report is focused on assessment of different surface layer on the components for automotive industry. First packet received from the customer contained by four pieces of specimens after nitridation with request on evaluation of layer quality according to DIN 50190-3 that is based on hardness profile measurement through the layer. The second part was focused on next four specimens with surface layer after nitridation and carburization. In the frame of third part were analyzed two gearing segments after induction hardening made of two different suppliers and methods. Surface layers were evaluated and compared using methods of optical microscopy and measurement of hardness profile from the specimen surface towards its core. Surface treatments was compared on the base of depth of nitridation or the performance of induction hardening on gearings.
