Influence of different heat treatments on TSP transition temperature
Original language description
Influence of different heat treatments (post weld heat treatment, quenching + tempering) on transition temperature TSP evaluated by small sample method was determined experimentally. TSP was evaluated by two different methods, an older one based on fitting two exponential curves on dataset and the newer attitude determined by EN 10 371 based on fitting hyperbolic tangent through dataset. Experimental material was heat exchanger cover plate made of 1Cr – 0.5Mo steel of 215 mm total thickness with austenitic cladding, because of the thickness TSP was evaluated from three different areas on the cover plate – under the surface (S), mid-thickness (M), under the cladding (C). From these locations 40 x 70 x 180 mm blocks were taken and submitted to abovementioned heat treatments, electrical discharge machining was then used to prepare small specimens for transition temperature evaluation. Main motivation for evaluating the transition temperature was repairment of the cover by welding, while trying to maintain or better the TSP. The post weld heat treatment showed almost no change to the transition temperature, best results by far were achieved by quenching and tempering, which successfully lowered the TSP regardless the evaluation method.
