Biostabilization and Bioimmobilization
Original language description
Bioimmobilization or biostabilization is an alternative remediation strategy for diminishing hazard of pollutants, which are non-biodegradable like metals, metalloids and radionuclides or for persistent organic pollutants which can be relatively easily biotransformed but not biodegraded. Brief overview of bioprecipitation, bioreduction and bioimmobilization of metals, metaloids and radionuclides is introduced and their potential for full-scale application is discussed. Biostabilization of persistent organic pollutants is employed in a full-scale remediation technique. It is employed for PAH- and explosive-contaminated soil successfully. Another possibilities for treatment of pollution by polychlorinated dioxins and other persistent organic pollutants is evaluated.
