The Present and the Future of the Institution of Widow?s and Widower?s Pensions
Original language description
The design of widow?s and widower?s pensions in the Czech Republic conforms to the socioeconomic conditions prevailing at the time the institution was introduced into the Czech legal system and does not correspond to the current women labor market participation rate, the increasing divorce rate and declining marriage rate in the society. Therefore, the paper presents potential ways of modernizing the institution inspired by various international developments, proposing two reform alternatives for the institution that comply with the development trend in the given area. It uses model analysis for the proposals and quantifies impact on pension rights of men and women as well as on the overall pension system balance.
