Multi-Capillary Isoelectric Focusing (cIEF) with Automated Parallel Fraction Collection

  • Original language description

Since its introduction by Hjerten in 1980s and following its commercionalization in early 1190, capillary isoelectric (cIEF) has traditionally been a member of the family of capillary electromigration methods and a variable tool for protein separation and characterization. In 2000 Karger´s group has extended the use of the technique from pure analytical to a preparative scale by presenting single-capillary cIEF with a dedicated fraction collector. The main itility for fractionation is in the further analysis of cIEF separated fractions by an off-line coupling MALDI/MS.
