Chosen chemical and biochemical processes involved in biocorrosion of building materials related to sulphate concentration increase
Original language description
Remarkable sulphate concentration increase has been proved at the groundwater resources at the watersheds of the Morava, Elbe, and Thaya rivers where water resources chemistry has changed from type of HCO3-Ca-Mg to SO4-Ca-Mg one. Main sulphate sources are solution of minerals as gypsum CaSO4.2H2O and anhydrite CaSO4 and oxidation of sulphide ores, with often involvement of bacteria Acidithiobacillus:A. thiooxidans and A. ferrooxidan and besides them another bacteria contributing to biocorrosion of building materials. Paper at the conference Silichem 2007, ISBN 978-80-214-3475-2.
