The berlinite substitution in clinkers: environmental aspects
Original language description
Clinkers produced from raw meals containing meat and bone meal (MBM) were studied using EMPA. It was found that P enters the structure of belite and to a lesser extent alite; interstitial phases are poor in P. The main MBM constituent Ca3(PO4)2, forms solid solutions with Ca2SiO4 a Ca3SiO5. Besides this substitution, certain portion of P appears to enter the belite and alite structure via the berlinite substitution, known e.g. from feldspars. This finding led to experiments with raw meals jointly enriched in P and Al, which enabled the formation of alite even from mixes with more than 3 % P2O5, not occurring in clinkers from raw meals containing both Al2O3 a Fe2O3.
