    The ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) from Moravia steel, North Moravia region of the Czech Republic is a material suitable for use as an admixture for building and cement production. Since GGBS is a by-product of steel manufacturing process, its use in concrete is recognized as improving the sustainability of new green buildings. Finely ground alkaline slag with high content of glass is latent hydraulic admixture that can be activated by Portland cement producing, when mixed with water, hydration products similar to those of Portland cement. Beneficial role of slag in cement concrete can be described in terms of improved durability and resistance. GGBS can also be used for superstructures thanks to its ability to extent the lifespan of buildings. Despite many former studies revealed pros of using slag in cement there are still cons remaining; slower heat development and setting time, lower early strengths etc. Keeping in mind the drawbacks of slag use in cement the paper describe optimization of such blended cement materials.
