Effect of Catch Crops and Soil Tillage Methods on Maize Yields and Content of Mineral Nitrogen in Soil
Original language description
The impact of catch crops and soil tillage methods was evaluated in exact field experiments established within the period of 2005-2007. Different species of catch crops were sown after the harvest of winter wheat and ploughing down in the autumn of sowing year or incorporating catch crops into the soil by means of a shallow tillage in the spring of the next year. The subsequent crop was maize for grain. As compared with the shallow tillage in the spring. Yields of maize for grain were higher after ploughing-in the autumn but the differences were mostly statistically insignificant. The lowest yields were recorded in the variant without catch crops while the highest ones after growing bluebell or mustard.
